Timothy P. Mottet
Dr. Timothy P. Mottet is Professor and Henry W. and Margaret Hauser Chair in Communication at The University of Texas-Pan American. He teaches courses in instructional communication, organizational communication, communication leadership, communication training and development, and communication research methods and theory. Dr. Mottet has a BA from William Jewell College, an MS from Boston University, and an EdD from West Virginia University.  
 
Dr. Mottet’s research examines the intersections of communication, personality, and cognition and their application to instructional, organizational, and interpersonal contexts. He is currently investigating instructor communication behaviors as predictors of the widely reported math and science learning deficit of American high school students. He is also actively planning a program of research that will investigate changes in communication style of brain-injured people and the effects on interpersonal relationships. 

Dr. Mottet has presented papers at regional, national, and international conferences and his research appears in Communication Education, Communication Quarterly, Communication Research Reports, Journal of Psychology, and Psychological Reports. He is a co-editor of the Handbook of Instructional Communication: Rhetorical and Relational Perspectives with Virginia P. Richmond and James C. McCroskey. He is also co-author of Training and Development: Enhancing Communication and Leadership Skills with Steven A. Beebe and K. David Roach. 

Prior to joining the faculty at The University of Texas-Pan American, Dr. Mottet was a faculty member at Texas State University-San Marcos. While at Texas State, he received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Research in 2004 and the Presidential Award for Excellence in Service in 2005. Dr. Mottet is a recipient of the Eastern Communication Association’s Past President’s Award recognizing his research, teaching, and service to the Communication Studies discipline. Between 1996-2001, he was listed among the top 50 most prolific researchers in the discipline.

Dr. Mottet worked in the airline industry for twelve years before pursuing his graduate education. As a director of in-flight service, he assisted with the merger of Northwest Airlines and Republic Airlines as well as the international alliance with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He has traveled extensively throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
